Killington - Gold Victory

This weekend Killington was the center of attention for the woman’s World Cup arriving in north America.

Sara had at great time winning the GS on Saturday. CONGRATULATIONS!
We got hold of her back in her home in Austria and got to ask her some questions.

Tell us about the preparations before the Giant Slalom race last Saturday

We stayed in Europe due to lack of snow. We have been in Soelden and Gurgl. We had happy atmosphere and good training! There were no opportunities to train in the United States. I just tried to work on maintaining my feeling, otherwise nothing special.

Are there differences in the snow in the United States compared to Europe?

No, not on the East Coast, it’s very similar. In Colorado the snow is dry, then it is different but there is no difference on the east coast I would say.

What were your thoughts going in for the first race and then the second race that day?

I knew exactly what I was going to try to do. The plan was clear and that was my focus. To keep the feeling in the beginning of each turn, and then to have fun and enjoy. I think I did a good job at finding the right feeling and my plan worked well together with the snow conditions!

It was nice to see the joy in your face at the start of the second race.

Thanks! Yes, I am very proud of my approach. I really had fun and that was my biggest goal!

What can you tell us about Sunday slalom race?

Well, this time I was so incredibly happy after my win on saturday so all I did was enjoy. It was a fantastic day and I really took the opportunity to live in that feeling. The feeling was magical. I didn’t sleep that well that night, because I was so happy. Best reason for not sleeping well.

My body was a bit stiff because this was the first time in a long time that we skied on ice in Giant Slalom, but my body recovered well anyway. Mentally I was quite tired in the slalom races but I think I held it together just fine. The second run was better that the first.

The (women’s) races this upcoming weekend are cancelled due to lack of snow, how do you spend your days until the race weekend in Austria at the end of december?

Right now I am back home in Austria and I have just done a block of off-hill training. Next week I’ll be back on snow again, I’m already looking forward to it! The training will continue until Christmas!

Where will you be spending Christmas this year?

Christmas this year will be spent at home in Sweden, very close to Arlanda (the airport) because soon after Christmas we will continue racing again!

What’s on your Christmas wish list?

Oh, tough question! Most of all, I wish for good health and really good shape 😉 both for me and everyone around 🥰.
